This is going to be my first blog post so I’m going to leave the classic title as is for now! But welcome to the blog! I guess the point is just to say hey I’m here and this site is actually happening now even if it’s a little rough around the edges. I don’t got a big plan for this exact post but I figured better to just start writing than wait forever trying to make it perfect, cause if I wait for perfect it will never get done.
I moved to Ottawa not too long ago and honestly it’s been a mix of stuff, some things are better than I thought and some things are harder. Everyone warns you about the weather, and sure that’s a big deal, but what surprised me more was the other day to day stuff nobody tells you. Like how fast apartments disappear off the market, or how you’ll see one place that looks fine in photos but then you show up and realize it’s basically in the middle of nowhere with no bus stop nearby.
Transit here is another thing. Some days it works smooth and you think ok I can live with this, then other days three buses don’t show and you’re standing around wondering if you should just give up and walk. I’m not trying to bash the city, it’s just reality. If you depend on transit, you plan your life around the idea that delays happen and bring an extra podcast in your pocket just in case.
Groceries are hit or miss too. You’ll find some stores that are decent on price, then another chain that’s way more expensive for the exact same bread and milk. And the lineups can be brutal at certain times, especially Sundays, which I learned the hard way. So figuring out where to shop and when is part of the whole survival guide here.
PS. just so you know, the way i found out these things i started here, I was as lost as a stray dog LOL!
I want this site to be about all that. Not polished guides or lists you can find anywhere but the little tactics that make life easier. How to set up your dryer so your place doesn’t end up damp, where to find furniture that isn’t overpriced junk, how to stretch your grocery budget, or even just which coffee shops actually have outlets when you want to work on your laptop. These are the things I wish I had when I first got here, not big shiny tourism slogans.
If you somehow found this page before I’ve even posted much, thanks for stopping by. Stick around, more will come. If you’re new maybe you’ll find something useful, and if you’ve been here awhile maybe you’ll laugh cause you already figured it out the hard way. Either way this is the start.
So yeah, hello world. Let’s see what happens.
