The Blissful State of Surrender is a dramatic comedy about a Bosnian-Canadian family and the larger-than-life culture clashes between the parents and their three grownup daughters. This humorous and haunted portrait of the Muslim refugee experience explores the lives of a family coping with family secrets, intergenerational differences and PTSD.

Award-winning writer Sanita Fejzić’s first book of fiction, Psychomachia, was shortlisted for two national book awards. Her children’s book, Miro Girafon, is forthcoming in 2019 with Le bouton d’or. The Blissful State of Surrender is her first play.
Director: Janet Irwin
Janet Irwin is a director, a playwright, a librettist and a dramaturg, a Life Member of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association, a member of Playwrights Guild of Canada, and a former President of Theatre Ontario. As director, Janet Irwin has mounted productions for National Arts Centre English Theatre and Orchestra, Great Canadian Theatre Company and many others.
