MAINSTAGE

Theatre Artists’ Co-operative: The Independent Collective Series (TACTICS) invites artists, creators, collectives and companies to submit a proposal for a project in development to Ottawa’s curated and cooperative indie theatre series.

We are currently accepting proposals for projects in our 2023 Mainstage Series.

TACTICS provides independent theatre creators and producers with development and presenting platforms, affording artists the opportunity to take risks and dream big with their art. We believe that to build and maintain an audience for live theatre, productions must create meaningful theatrical experiences that represent diverse voices and respond to the challenges of our world. We aim to support creative artists in ways that serve their work and practice.

2023 MAINSTAGE SERIES:

In the Mainstage Series, TACTICS programs production-ready larger-scale independent works that exceed the production limitations of a festival format (ie. requiring productions to share venues thus necessitating a house lighting plot, limited set storage, limited turn-over time between shows, set running times)

TACTICS will support selected artists in the Mainstage Series by providing:

  • a venue appropriate to the needs of the production
  • technical support
  • marketing and outreach
  • a guaranteed fee and/or payout of box office revenue
  • artistic feedback where appropriate
  • and (most importantly) a collaborative producing environment

DEVELOPMENT

CALL FOR PROPOSALS

Theatre Artists’ Co-operative: The Independent Collective Series (TACTICS) invites artists, creators, collectives and companies to submit a proposal for a project in development to Ottawa’s curated and cooperative indie theatre series.

We are currently accepting proposals for projects in various stages of development for consideration in our 2022 Development Series.

2022 DEVELOPMENT SERIES:

The Development Series is now comprised of two streams. In the Text Development stream, playwrights/creators are supported through a standard play development workshop structure with a rehearsal space, a team of actors and a director/dramaturge. In the Production Development stream, creators have the chance to develop their new work in a theatrical space, enabling actors to be on their feet, integrating aspects of design or choreography and experimenting with putting the text in a physical space. This option suits works created through a Devising Process or text-based projects that are experimenting with form, design, structure and integrating other artistic forms and media.

We encourage you to think about what kind of development opportunity would best help take your project from where it is now to its next stage.

TACTICS will support selected projects in the Development Series by providing:

  • the opportunity to workshop your script/project for up to 25 hours, in a rehearsal space and/or theatre space
  • a public staged reading/sharing with a facilitated talk-back afterwards
  • promotional support.
  • a guaranteed artist fee for each participant in the workshop.
  • artistic feedback where appropriate
  • a professional and collaborative development environment
